living in a mind set of reminiscing.

Excuse me while I go back in time. When I was growing up in Florida in my younger days I  was always surrounded by some sort under water animal… just water period. A hazy memory that just ran threw my thoughts inspired me to write this post. I was at least 3 0r 4 years young at the time. My mother, my cousin, and me were at some sort of aquarium park, 100’s of tanks filled with the most amazing ocean animals alive. To me, as i look back on this memory, it was truly a strong experience, because when I was looking at the fish and sharks swimming threw that crystal clear tank, it made me just think on all different level.. like a feeling of being free, like I was the fish.

Is this why I am a Pisces?

I ran across this old memory on youtube. It brings back a lot of memories. This aquarium is huge, and you know what i said about when I look into the waters of a aquarium? Well, that whole feeling  just came back. Watch. Sit back. And think.

Ill be in a deep thought process…

thank you,

the making of: The supreme tour

Yesterday was the offical day for the creation of the supreme tour. The new fashion in Arkansas. The new fashion over the world. This day was so huge to me, I’ve been dreaming about this for so long and it finally came true. Me and Matt had a lot of fun creating these shirts in the shop, even though he had to run the screen printing machine, we still managed to crack a few jokes and enjoyed a few laughs. Moments you can cherish. I wont write you to death, so just soak up these few portraits and imagine whats to come.

a king on my neck. a lion on my finger.

I need these gold Egyptian accessories in my presence today. I really never have worn accessories with an outfit of mine.. well not like these. If I do wear accessories it’ll be my earrings, my white G-Shock watch, and my wood beads that I got from Urban Outfitters. Thats it. But, recently with me doing this clothing line, I’m more in-tune with my sense of style and actually putting thoughts behind my specific outfits that i choose to wear. To be honest with you, I’ve never really put thought behind my outfits, i just put on clothing and go out. To me, if you have a good sense of style you dont have think about what you are going to wear, or what goes with what. Because, when you have to think hard on what you want to wear, mostly likely that style isn’t for you. Effortless style. I know i said i was going to put thought behind my outfits and you may say, ” I thought you said you dont think about what you wear or if you have to think to hard about choosing your fit that style isn’t for you?” True. But, im referring to a different thought process of putting fits together. I really cant just tell you that process yet because I havent really just sat back and thought about it on a deep level. When I find out what I exactly want to do, you’ll be the first to know. I was told a fool talks about things he doesnt understand or doesnt know about..

The reason why these gold accessories are appealing to me is because, I can see the vision that this jewelry designer is trying to project threw her pieces and plus I have always been in love with the Egyptian culture. A certain accessory can complement a outfit well. You can have a mediocre fit and add these things below to your fit and make your fit historic. Just imagine me or you walking down the street with king tut around your neck, and a two-finger lion ring on your fingers. Turning heads, right? Yes. I will explain the significance of king tut and the lion later in this post. The person behind these inspiring pieces comes from Japan and is a 21 year old accessory designer. Respect. She has more pieces but these are the ones that caught my eye.

The significance of King tut. Tutankhamunwas an Egyptian Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty, during the period of Egyptian history known as the New Kingdom. Tutankhamun was nine years old when he became pharaoh and reigned for approximately ten years. In historical terms, Tutankhamun’s significance stems from his rejection of the radical religious innovations introduced by his predecessor Akhenaten and that his tomb in the Valley of the Kings was discovered by Carter almost completely intact — the most complete Ancient Egyptian royal tomb ever found. As Tutankhamun began his reign at such an early age, his vizier and eventual successor Ay was probably making most of the important political decisions during Tutankhamun’s reign.

However, various fateful combinations of factors made King Tut, more fortunate in death than in life, the most famous Egyptian ruler ever. Still, his fabulous tomb, while revealing to us the extent of the wealth and beauty surrounding the kings of Egypt, tells us nothing much about Tut, himself. The cause of Tutankhamun’s death is unclear, and is still the root of much speculation. In early 2005 the results of a set of CT scans on the mummy were released. The body originally was looked at by Howard Carter’s team in the early 1920s, although they were primarily interested in recovering the jewelry and amulets from the body. To remove these objects from the body, which often were stuck fast by the hardened embalming resins used, Carter’s team cut up the mummy into various pieces: the arms and legs were detached, the torso cut in half and the head was severed. Hot knives were used to remove it from the golden mask to which it was cemented by resin.

The lion. It is interesting that, during most of the Pharaonic period, lions were relatively few in Egypt, but were at the same time significant to the Pharaonic Egyptians. Today, we know of no wild lions in Egypt. Their number declined steadily as the more lush climate of the prehistoric period faded into the desert climate that most of Egypt knows today, and as the inhabitable land of Egypt became more and more densely populated.  However, it was probably during the prehistoric times that they became a symbol with religious associations. It is likely that the connection between the king and the lion grew from the tribal chiefs hunting these animals. Lions usually lived on the edges of the desert, and so they became known as the guardians of the eastern and western horizons, where the sun rose and set.

The most consistent depiction is in keeping with their image of “king of the jungle” or “king of the beasts”, hence lions are popular symbols of royalty and stateliness and a symbol of bravery. The earliest recorded depictions of lions can be found in some of the earliest paleolithic human cave art possibly dating to 32,000 years ago in the Chauvet Cave in the Ardèche region of southern France, where lionesses are depicted hunting for the pride in much the same strategy as contemporary lions. Found first in Ancient Egypt the sphinx, which had the head and shoulders of a human and the body of a lioness, represented the goddess who was the protector of the pharaohs. Later pharaohs were depicted as sphinxes, being thought as the offspring of the deity. Which is somewhat like the picture above to the left.

Didn’t mean to make this a history lesson.

original soles under the bed.

I didn’t even know I had a piece of history underneath my mothers bed until last week. I was in my mothers room and she was looking for some shoes to go out in and these shoes were tossed my way. I’m like, ” where did you get these from? ” My mother used to play basketball back in the 80’s and 90’s and her team mate gave her these like in 90’s to play in. The woman who gave her these obviously didn’t know what she had in her possession at the time. They’re just shoes at the end of the day, right?

I might have to argue you with this one, because “authentic” Jordan shoes are not just regular shoes. It’s a certain philosophy and vibe that’s behind these shoes. Me, I dont look a shoes like the regular human nor the regular shoe consumer. Shoes to me have they’re own unique design and some sort of inspirational story behind them. The original Jordan shoe had a certain design to it. First, the quality of the sneaker was unbelievable. I back up my statement by this picture below, these particular Jordans where created late 80’s early 90’s and now it’s 2009 and these shoes still look brand new. To bad I cant fit them, because I’ll have them on as I type this. Second, the structure of them. Me, Im a firm believer of simplicity. Jordan, captured this simplicity threw all of his brand; shoes, clothing, basketballs, and whatever else he got his hands onto. But, jordans were based on 2 or three colors, no more than 4. The structure or how these shoes were put together is beautiful to me. Jordan, put basic colours on shoes and made them the most valuable shoes in history. Detail, comes along with structure also. The detail aspect that Jordan projected is great too. Even though he just had a few colours on the shoes, the details he made sure was on point to back up the simple colour schemes. The details. Consisted of where the snitching was located, where the jordan logo was, chrome tips on shoe strings and this checkerboard pattern you see here. Simplicity and small details go along way. Last, versatility. Jordans weren’t just made to play basketball in but Jordans can be so versatile that you can wear them with any fashion look that one desires. I watch fashion shows on the Internet, go to fashion shows, visit fashion and sneaker culture forums and I have seen alot of different styles of fashion with the chose of some classic Jordan footwear. Styles from street wear, casual, foreign, high fashion, and so on.

100_0148

I can remember in the 80’s and 90’s it really meant something to own a pair of these shoes. These are the years were the Jordan shoe first originated so you know everyone wanted a pair, here comes that famous quote: ” I want to be like Mike ” by this people wanted to play like Mike so they invested in the shoes. To me, this is so cool and inspiring that a pair of shoes can make you play your hardest and your best, I wouldn’t write this if I didn’t live it. I cant front, in my ” hooping ” days my mother bought me the black and white 12’s. As soon as I put those shoes on before the game, I promise it was like some sort of force that took over my body, this was the best game I have ever played in might I add. Mike, what did you put in these shoes?!

To go back to the first sentence above, if you were seen walking down the street in a pair of jordans in the 80’s and 90’s it was like you were somebody that people looked up to. That look consisted of a smile and nod or a frown and a mug. It was so crazy back then that people actually harmed others for these rubber soles, just to say that one had a pair of these. The Jordan craze was important to ones culture that you could catch one with a tooth brush and soapy water scrubbing away at these shoes just to clean a little scuff off of them. Yea it was that important…

Today, that originality and love is gone. It’s so sad how the value of these sneakers has degraded. So bad that you have to wear $500 priced LV ( louis vuitton ) loafers to get noticed now, and now a days it’s nothing to get a pair of Jordans. Now that these imitation Jordans has hit the air ways now, Jordans are at your finger tips so fast, they’re on ever street corner, every gas station, and even being sold in stores.. well at least in Arkansas. So much has changed since back then, with Jordans and just life period.. things are not the same. I know when you read my post you may think im stuck in the past, to be honest I very much live in the present time, actually looking towards the future and whats to come. I just like how things were back in the days; things were real, original, and things actually had a meaning to them. It’s like now, people do what they see on TV, like they have to obtain a certain image.

What happen to all the leaders? I like the days were you could just be you, do what you wanted to do, speak how you wanted, acted like you wanted and wear what you wanted to wear with out someone having their input on something.. just free living. I want see people create their own self instead of having America doing it for them. When I say America I mean; Rappers, TV, and the Internet. Im sure its alot of people in the world that’s original.. contact me so when can get together. I can respect that. But hey, who am I to complain I dont have the power to change anything, but me and my circle of love ones that I surround my self with. By this, ima make it my duty to bring back the originality, the leadership, and the fact of not being scared of being the higher you. I dont know if I’m alone when I say this but I want to find the highest me that I can find.. that the higher power allows me to be, being intelligent or just having common sense I dont believe in limits, so there is no level of finding the higher me. I’m not here to preach or to tell you what to do or what to believe, imjust here to inspire you.. to bring out the best in you. This what makes me feel good. To reach out to people. These words are not projected to anyone in particular. Im just documenting what I see, thats legal right?

Thank you,

Drake

WEEKEND TUBING.

What a weekend. Did you enjoy your fourth of July weekend? I did. Last weekend was a weekend that I can tell my kids about, when I have some, my weekend started of unexpected like always, On friday  night I decided to text my cousin that I havent seen in ages to see what she was doing for the weekend. She told me she was going to this rooftop party at the Peabody Hotel. I really havent been to a rooftop party before, but the whole vibe of the party, i truly like it. The women? I dont even want to start on this subject. But, I will. The women found here were the most fashionable, grown women that Little Rock has to offer. I’ ll be at the next one, trust. Saturday was monumental too. Where do I start from? Sleeping in from the long night before, I woke up to my Day n Nite  ringer, it was Dave saying lets go to Caddo lake to go tubing. I havent been to the lake since my younger days. Saying okay, I hung up the phone. So we meet at the mall, next thing you know we’re on the highway to go to Arkadelphia. After a 45 minute drive we finally made it to our designation. Arkadelphia. Pulling up to the house we decided to play a game of pool before we all went to the lake and started tubing. Finally. We made it to Caddo lake, I never seen anything like this before.. just imagine wild river country lazy pool except for a huge lake, that take you 2 hours to tube around. I always loved the outdoors and nature its give me a chance to just think about life and soak up everything that surrounds me at the moment. Enjoy the moments you encounter. To bad I couldnt take any pictures of this memory, caused by fear of getting the camera wet.. we’re stuck with this photo below. This photo explains the whole experience. A memory to cherish…

yesterday was a good day.

In the words of the original Ice Cube, ” Today was a good day “…Yesterday was my good day.

This is the day i was referring to on the below post. Yesterday was a kind of a big day, it was more like a busy day. i say it was a good day is because, I finally traveled to the screen printer establishment so i can move forward with my clothing line process on getting everything printed up, therefore i can start sharing my visions with you. My day began at 8 in the morning, fueling off 5 hours of sleep from the night before, with no food in stomach.. just a vitamin water. You have to make sacrifcies right? But, i still managed to finish some last minute editing on a few designs before I emailed them to the printer. After finishing those designs, I did my morning routine and quickly put on some clothes( sooner than later ill be throwing on a Supreme Tour tee ), rushing out the door, I made sure I had my backpack, filled with my; laptop, camera, portfolio, and my FADER magazine. After checking this, i jump into the truck, threw my bag in the back seat, turned my Bob Marley on low, and sped out of my drive-way. I dont know where that line came from..

100_2570 copy

Now here comes the fun, most important part of the whole process. Choosing the perfect style of t-shirt and the perfect t shirt colors that mesh well with each specific design. After spending 2 hours in the screen printer place trying to decide on which color t shirts i wanted, Matt from section 8 decided to let me take this color/fabric chart home so i wouldnt rush on finding a color. To let you know i stayed up until 3 in the morning trying to find those colors that i liked, and i did. Going back to the store, I had my colors that i wanted wrote down on some torn notebook paper and gave them to Matt. No lie, this guy has tons of blank t shirts in the back of his shop. Me, wanting the best for my line we decided that I should try on the particular style of t shirt that i wanted. I tried on one black shirt, but it was to slim for me.. so i chose another style in purple, as soon as i threw that tee on i just started smiling..like this is the fit im looking for. Im telling you, these t shirts are the most high quality, the most softest t shirts in the game right now! Feel for yourself..
