(sun)day ritual.

Why does the sun shine the brightest on this day?..

Furthermore, sorry for the lack of post once again, don’t get me wrong I love having my life full, but it seems like I have so much to do in a small amount of time, and the Internet somehow feel at the bottom of the To Do List. But, I will do my best to keep you updated with “classic” post. The school district gave us a thing called spring break( which didn’t feel like a week ) so I took advantage of this break and caught up on some sleep. Don’t get me wrong though, work was still a must. Now, that my break has come to an end it is back to the over priced text books and long nights at work. Before my break ended, I had the pleasure of attending a Little Rock fashion show that was held on Saturday at the Metroplex. To be honest, this was the first time I have attended a “real” fashion show, and I must say, it was a inspiring moment.. just to be in a environment full of people that carry the same passion as yourself. Between me and you, as soon as I gave my ticket to the doorman and walked threw those doors, I felt right at home( like this is were I belong )!

Man, that was a long paragraph. To get to the topic of discussion, every Sunday(that we are free) the good people I surround myself and I find places in the city and capture random pieces of art that catch our creative gene that is embodied in us. As I look back on these photos, every photo has a personal meaning to it, to be honest this wasn’t forced..it just happened natural.

“ATLiens”

If you’re just now following this blog, you wouldn’t know that my love for “Real” music plays a important role in my life. Whenever I feeling stress or designing clothes I can introduce my ears to my music and go into my own little creative mind set, if you will. So let your ears enjoy the “feel good” music posted on this blog !

ATLiens is a blend of funky beats and crafty wordplay from Big Boi and Dre, many of their songs on ATLiens feature more unconventional subject matter for hip hop. It also has a notably more laid-back, spacey production sound.

ENJOY.

west coast flavor.

I know when you see this post you may say, what does this young man his age know about NWA? Truthfully, I grew up listening to this group of creative individuals(well not actually grew up,because by the time I was introduced to them they wasn’t around anymore..just my mother’s compact disc laying around our home), I wasn’t here early enough to hear their first music due to my age.

The history of N.W.A. was so legendary, N.W.A. released Straight Outta Comptonin 1988. With its famous opening salvo of three songs, the group reflected the rising anger of the urban youth. “Straight Outta Compton” introduced the group; “F tha Police” protested police brutality and racial profiling, and “Gangsta Gangsta” painted the worldview of the inner-city youth. While the group was later credited with pioneering the burgeoning sub-genre of gangsta rap, N.W.A. in fact referred to their music as “reality rap”. As a person would listen to these songs that are mentioned, they wouldn’t take the positive aspect of the message, instead consume the negative.

There is a vision in my thoughts that stands out from the rest, a documentary of NWA on Vh1 stating the life and time of the group. Since I really didn’t get a chance to see what the group really stood for, this documentary showed; the  problems the group went threw, were they came from, were they went, and most importantly.. what they stood for. Even though NWA was known for the usage of curse words, and violence, the message behind this content was much needed. To put aside their language NWA stood for a positive message which was showing the world how their environment was. I say enviornment, because this was during the time when NWA first came out, right in the mix of the Los Angles riots, they spoke on police burtality, living conditions, and racism.

During the L.A. riots there was an enormus amount of poilce burtality against all people, mostly african americans though, but the ones that the law enforcement was taking advantage of , these was the  people that didn’t have a voice to tell America to stop the violence, NWA was the voice of the voiceless. So, NWA took it in their hands and made sure that the world heard all the harm that police was doing to innocent people, this caused contriversy between the group and America. If you ever listen to an NWA song, don’t take the negative approach of it, see past that and focus on the message.

THEIR GROUNDBREAKING WORK IN THE FIELD OF HIP-HOP IS FIRMLY ESTABLISHED. THEIR INFLUENCE ON OTHER ARTISTS IS REMARKABLE. N.W.A AND ITS MEMBERS HAVE LEFT US A SUBSTANTIAL BODY OF WORK, A TIMELESS LEGACY TO BE ENJOYED THROUGH THE GENERATIONS.

THANK YOU,

wood collector.

It’s amazing to find other artists that are original in this beautiful world that create their work from things that surround them. A good example of my statement is this artist named Henrique Oliveira, Oliveira uses salvaged wood collected from the streets of são paulo to create  massive scale, site-specific installations with dense layers that twist, curve, bend, and split. This shows, creativity comes from the person!

Oliveira uses tapumes, which in portugese can mean fencing, boarding, or enclosure,  as a title for many of his large-scale installations. The term makes reference to the temporary wooden construction fences seen throughout the city of são paulo where oliveira lives.

influences in style.

Fact: There is nothing that anyone does without prompts and direction from a past source.  Where you derive your inspiration from however is what begins to make the situation interesting.

When it comes to my style of fashion, it is created from a lot of different regions of this world and different time periods. My love for classic American “prep” style can also be stressed threw my sense of fashion, but I did not wake up one day and decided to dress prep, this classic style has been in my blood stream for a while now.. it started with my father. My style is prep but I grew up in a “urban” environment, if you will, so by saying this I add urban flavor to my style also..meaning that I through in the classic Air Jordan’s as my chose of footwear with the classic American style. This complete contradiction in style is what affects a lot of how I dress and design personally.

To be honest, I really did not want to get in full detail of how I create my style, but I don’t mind sharing my creative thoughts with you. Fashion is more than simple fabrics that a person puts on, fashion should be a chance for you to be creative, like an art form.

Above is a image straight from an Ivy league campus..good stuff, right?

The clothing you wear should be for function, these young skaters turned what they had available to them into the style that defined them.  The clothes did not define the style, how they were worn and who embodied them defined the style. Skaters influence my sense of style also, not what they wear ,but more of their true-ness to their culture. You don’t see skaters wearing the latest trend in polo or button up suits, skaters wore what they had available at the time.

In conclusion, you don’t have to wear expensive clothes or the latest trend to define your style, or to be cool. Wear things that make you feel good, even if people laugh at you. NEVER FIT IN, ALWAYS STAND OUT IN LIFE.

THANK YOU,

old memories at the door step.

I was leaving campus on a cold Friday to go home, and when I pulled in the drive-way  I saw this big brown box at my door step, I turned the music to low and said to myself .. with a huge smile on my face, ” I hope these are my shoes that I ordered.” So I rushed and picked up the box; took it inside, opened it quickly, and there they are.. Jordan 14’s.

I can remember like it was yesterday when I first got introduced to these sneakers, it was the summer of 96′, I was at least seven years young. My mother bought me these shoes to wear to a UALR basketball camp, to let you in a little secret on my experience during this camp, I really didn’t put my all into the camp because I was to busy looking down at my shoes ! But, don’t get me wrong I am a believer of hard work, reasoning why I state this is because I still ended up with “The Camper” award. What if I did put my all into the camp and didn’t look down at my shoes?..
